Condition
The customer has various complaints concerning the function of the power folding rearview mirrors, such as:
^ Door mirrors do not fold simultaneously, e.g. one or the other mirror folds independently of the other.
^ Power folding mirrors are sporadically inoperative.
^ Mirror glass vibrates while driving.
Technical Background
In many cases, these complaints arise after manually folding the mirrors and are not a technical problem.
When the door mirror is manually folded by hand, such as after hitting an obstruction or in a car wash, the mirror housing is mechanically
disengaged from the folding motor.
If the mirror is manually folded back to the starting position, the housing does not automatically reengage the folding motor. The mirror housing is
now not as solidly fixed and can cause symptoms such as mirror vibrations while driving.
If the mirrors are now electrically folded, the mirror appears to malfunction: mirrors do not fold or folding is delayed, a grinding noise or loud snap

noise is produced, etc. After one cycle, the mirrors resume their normal folding operation as the housing and motor are now reengaged.
Production Solution
None.
Service
1. Explain to the customer that after manual operation of the power folding rearview mirrors, the power folding feature must be used to restore
normal function.
2. If possible, manual operation of the power folding rearview mirrors should be avoided.
