Affected Vehicles
Condition
Customer may report squealing or howling noise from under vehicle. This is usually with vehicle cold and at speeds from 5 - 40 mph.
Technical Background
Not applicable.
Production Solution
Lubrication of intermediate bearing was increased, and further clearance was achieved of the shaft extension.
Service
Verify the noise is coming from the intermediate bearing of the propeller shaft using chassis ears or similar listening device.
If noise is coming from the intermediate bearing, replace the propeller shaft following the procedure from ELSA.
Test drive and verify the noise is no longer present.
