Mustang EV CUV Mach-E

Mustang EV CUV Mach-E

Look out for the ND replacement, a CX-3 style full electric crossover but called the MX-3 Miata, FWD, AWD optional, four doors, four seats, lifted ride height, black plastic cladding the works. Turn off these ads? You know what's really going to hurt? If Ford actually discontinues the Mustang and winds up selling this thing as a "replacement". I've never been a huge fan but I would sure pour a 40 out for it if they stopped making it. To be fair, the Camero is being discontinued with this set up. And all the dodge products are at 10% discounts, well because thats how American companies sell cars, but also the fact that its basically the same car that came out over a decade ago. A full refresh would definitely bump sales, but I doubt that is likely to happen in the near future. Chevrolet needs to embrace this mind-set and come out with the all electric CamEro. Actually really like the exterior styling.

Hate the mustang name though, Mach E on its own would've been fine. Porsche literally has the word Turbo in the name of an all electric vehicle and people are getting mad at ford for using the mustang name? In the Model 3, it is super annoying to have to look at the center cluster for important information. Really the only important information is your speed and you can see that in your peripheral vision. Porsche literally has the word Turbo in the name of an all electric vehicle and people are getting mad at ford for using the mustang name? Porsche has been using that nomenclature to differentiate between the different model trims for some time now (since all 911's, save the GT3 went turbo). They have been applying this to the Panamera line for a while so they are now applying it to the Taycan. You mean like this?

Storm in a teacup, imho. Where I think this will probably head, assuming Mustang as a brand is successful, is it being a sub-brand under ford. Keeping with the defense of Porsche, a brand of VW now and share components, it is not so very different. We, the unwashed, have spoken. Side note on all of this, electric cars can have insane performance and doesn't take a massive automaker to do it. For a brand like Porsche, the only thing I see sticking out in the long term is the name. You mean like this? Storm in a teacup, imho. Show those two cars, especially in side profile to any regular person and they will say "those are Porsches". The look is still unmistakably 911, even if the modern car is far larger. Other than throwing some Mustang styling cues on this crossover thing (mainly the "grill") you could not put a 1968 fastback Mustang next to it and have people go "oh that jacked up four door thing is a Mustang too". If Ford wanted to trot out a historical name to put on this thing, why not "Galaxy 500" or "Futura"?

Calling it a Mustang just smacks of desperation and a severe lack of imagination. Show those two cars, especially in side profile to any regular person and they will say "those are Porsches". So, your objection is not the size difference, but that Porsche did it gradually where Ford is doing it now quickly? Not a big deal at all. People that loves the Mustang coupe will continue to buy it, some people that love the way it looks and assign a certain idea of sportiness to the Mustang name will be attracted to the new EV Mustang. Storm in a teacup (or old man yelling at clouds) situation imho.
