In 2019, a great example of that comes as a result of Ford's EV initiatives and the excitement that surrounds them. Case in point: Ford's promise of a 'Mustang-inspired' all-electric SUV, the rumors of which have been circulating for the better part of a year. Simply put, it's been quite the conversation starter - be it right here on the dealer floor or via the countless articles found within various industry publications. And why wouldn't it be? Sure, the ever-increasing frequency of EV introductions is becoming a staple of current auto news, and the consumer shift toward crossover and SUV offerings has become more commonplace over time. However, it's the inclusion of the phrase "Mustang-inspired" that has sparked the most speculation, with many wondering what it even means? After all, how does one pair the utilitarian appeal of an SUV with the sporty philosophy that inspired the Mustang?





This confusion, of course, was furthered by rumors that it would bear the infamous Mach-E moniker. For the most of the year, Ford has remained tight-lipped, shedding next to no light on the project, what it would look like, what sort of performance specs it would deliver, or when we could look forward to a reveal. While heavily rumored to be the case, Ford has now confirmed that their game-changing offering will bear the Mach-E name. In terms of appearance and design, we have little more to go on than the teaser image that has been released. Conveying little more than the highlighted outlines of the hood and roofline, with discernible contours serving as the placeholder for head and tail lights along with the window, the tease is far from revealing. But it does communicate a sleek, aerodynamic feel - and the arrow-like elements used to represent the lights create an almost instant state of motion. It may not be much for those in search of spoilers, but it certainly does wet the palate. What we do know is that the vehicle will play an important role in defining the early stages of Ford's EV strategy. Boasting an EPA-estimated range of "at least 300 miles," it's been shared that the Mach-E will be fast-charging, able to gain as much as 47 miles of additional range with as little as a 10-minute charge. As the performance war continued, the Mustang's platform and engine bay were progressively redesigned to accommodate larger engine blocks. Late in the 1968 model year, Ford introduced the 428 cu in (7.0 L) Cobra Jet FE engine in a small group of Mustang GTs and into the 1968 Shelby GT500KR. This was a strong performer and indicated the direction of the 1969 Mustang. Ford (F) took its time. But for its first electric vehicle, the 116-year old automaker did something a little controversial. The Mustang Mach-E is an all-new, fully-electric crossover that Ford says is part of the 鈥淢ustang family.鈥?That means it has some styling cues from the famous pony car, but that鈥檚 about it. It鈥檚 not a coupe, convertible, or special edition Mustang like the Bullitt edition. For the Mach-E with the extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive targeted, Ford is targeting an EPA-estimated range of at least 300 miles. In extended-range all-wheel-drive configurations, the Mach-E will pump out 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. But that鈥檚 not all. Ford will also offer two special performance versions - a GT version (see what Ford did there) and a GT Performance Edition. Both GT models will boost output to 459 horsepower and a very healthy 612 lb.-ft. Ford says the GT Performance Edition will likely have a 0-60 mph time in the mid-3-second range, while the standard GT will do the sprint in under 4 seconds. 52,400 respectively.
