Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 37 number 08 - 20 dated December 16, 2008 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

27

Condition

After a Multitronic transmission (CVT) repair, the transmission control unit may not adapt. The adaptation process outlined in the Guided Fault

Finding fails before completion.

Technical Background

TCM loses adaptation values.

Production Solution

No change, as this condition may only occur after a transmission repair.

Service

The adaptation compensates for production tolerances and changes on the clutch and the plate sets over the operating cycle. If the adaptation values

in channel 00 are deleted, the transmission control module and its timing map are reset to the default setting.

No timing maps are deleted. Only the changes that have been made are deleted.

If, after deleting the adaptation values, an adaptation drive is unsuccessful, then the conditions for the adaptation have not been saved.

Conditions that may cause an unsuccessful adaptation drive are:

^ After deleting the adaptation values, the ignition must be switched to the "on" position for at least 5 seconds. Do not start the engine. The pressure

sensor then runs G193 and G194 without pressure. If this is ignored, a successful adaptation drive is not possible.

^ Hard braking during the adaptation drive activates the anti-stalling control of the gearbox. This can happen with an ABS braking, but may happen

even without ABS activation. This will cause the adaptation process to be interrupted.

^ If the ATF temperature is under 140锟斤拷F (60锟斤拷C) or over 194锟斤拷F (90锟斤拷C).

^ Fluctuating engine speeds.

The adaptation of the clutches takes place at standstill, with selected driving mode "D" or "R" and with the brake pedal depressed.

Tip: The vehicle can be released to the customer if it has no running problems.
