SUBJECT

Headlights Flicker While Driving

MODEL

R55 (Cooper Clubman, Cooper S Clubman)

R56 (Cooper, Cooper S)

R57 (Cooper Convertible, Cooper S Convertible)

Vehicle produced up to September 7, 2009

SITUATION

While driving, the headlights appear to flicker, especially on rough road surfaces.

Adjusting the headlight alignment may not be possible.

CAUSE

The headlight housing reflector support bracket is broken.

PROCEDURE

Check each headlight assembly by turning on the headlights and lightly tapping on the headlight assembly.

If the housing reflector bracket is broken, the headlight beam will appear to bounce erratically, causing the light to flicker. Compare to a

known good vehicle as necessary.

Check each headlight assembly and replace as needed.
