Paint Peels Off the Interior Door Grip Cover



SYMPTOM



The paint on the interior door grip cover peels off.



PROBABLE CAUSE



148



Contaminates such as some sunscreens or lotions react with the paint, causing it to peel.



CORRECTIVE ACTION



Replace the affected door grip cover(s).

REPAIR PROCEDURE - FRONT DOOR



1. Lower the door glass fully.



2. With your hand, carefully pull out the top edge of the tweeter cover to detach the hooks and the clips, then remove the tweeter cover. Disconnect



the tweeter connector.

3. Push on the inner handle cap upper hook with the appropriate trim tool, then pull back the inner handle cap and remove it.



4. Remove the screws securing the inner handle.



5. Driver's side only Remove the front seat memory switch panel



^ Insert the appropriate trim tool into the notch, and pry up on the lower edge of the panel to detach the clip.



^ Pull out along the edge of the panel to release the hooks.



^ Disconnect the front seat memory switch connector.

6. Remove the screw from the door panel.



7. Release the hooks, and remove the pull pocket cap, then remove the screw.



8. Remove the power window switch panel from the door panel



^ Pry up at the notch, then release the hook.



^ Pull out along the edge of the panel to release all of the hooks.



^ Detach the clip.



^ Disconnect the power window switch connector.

9. Remove the screw securing the door panel.



10. Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it



^ Start at the bottom edge of the door panel, detach the clips that are just above the marks on the edge of the door panel with a commercially



available trim pad remover.



^ Detach the remaining clips. Starting at the rear, pull the door panel upward.



NOTE



The inner handle cable and the latch cable are connected to the inner handle. Do not pull the door panel up too far, or these cables will be



damaged.



11. While holding the door panel away from the door, remove the inner handle from the door panel



^ Detach the clips by pulling the handle out.



^ Slide the handle to release the projections of the handle from the grooves in the door panel.

12. While holding the door panel away from the door, disconnect the courtesy light subharness connector. Driver's side only Disconnect the door



subharness connector and the trunk lid opener switch connector, then detach the harness clips.



13. Remove the grip cover from the door panel



^ Remove the screws from the back of the door panel, then remove the grip bracket.



^ Remove the screws securing the grip cover from the back of the door panel.



^ Driver's side only Disconnect the front door subharness connector, and release the front door subharness from the harness holder. Release



the hooks.

14. Remove the screw, and release the tabs, then remove the grip base from the grip cover.



15. Driver's side only Release the tabs, then remove the power mirror switch bracket by releasing it from the projections on the grip cover.



16. Install the grip base on the new grip cover, then install the grip bracket onto the door panel.



17. Reconnect the front door subharness, the harness holder, the courtesy light subharness, the harness clips, and the trunk lid opener switch.



18. Reinstall the inner handle on the door panel, then reinstall the door panel.



19. Reconnect the power window switch connector, then reinstall the switch panel.



20. Reinstall the front pull pocket screw and cap.



21. Ddver's side only Reconnect the front seat memory seat connector, then reinstall the switch panel.



22. Reinstall the inner handle screws, and reconnect the tweeter connector, then reinstall the tweeter cover.



REPAIR PROCEDURE - REAR DOOR



1. Lower the door glass fully.

2. Push down on the upper hook with the appropriate trim tool, then pull back the inner handle cap to remove it.



3. Remove the screws securing the inner handle, then remove the screw securing the door panel.



4. Release the hooks, and remove the pull pocket, then remove the screw.



5. Remove the power window switch panel from the door panel



^ Pry up at the notch, then release the hook.



^ Pull out along the edge of the panel to release all of the hooks.

^ Detach the clip. Disconnect the power window switch connector.



6. Remove the screw securing the door panel.



7. Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it

^ Detach the clips starting at the rear, then pull the door panel upward.

^ Detach the clips by pulling the handle out.

10. Remove the grip cover from the door panel



^ Remove the screws from the back of the door panel, then remove the grip bracket.



^ Remove the screws securing the grip cover from the back of the door panel, then release the hooks.

11. Remove the screw, and release the tabs, then remove the grip base from the grip cover.



12. Install the grip base on the new grip cover, then install the grip bracket onto the door panel.



13. Reconnect the courtesy light bulb socket.



14. Reinstall the inner handle on the door panel, then reinstall the door panel.



15. Reconnect the power window switch connector, then reinstall the power window switch panel, the pull pocket, the inner handle screws, and the
