SUBJECT

Squeaking Noise When Operating Sunroof

MODEL

Cooper, Cooper S

SITUATION

Some customers may complain of a squeaking noise when sliding the sunroof open and closing.

CAUSE

This noise can be caused by dirt or a lack of lubrication in the outer guide rails for the linkage that lifts the rear of the sunroof.

PROCEDURE

In case of customer complaint, the guide rails should be cleaned and lubricated. This is best done by attaching a small cloth swab to the end of a stiff

wire rod, such as a straightened out coat hanger or a piece of welding rod.

Open the sunroof and clean the guide rails by inserting the rod and cleaning swab (1) from the front and thoroughly wiping out the inside of the rails.

This illustration points out the areas (1) that must be cleaned and lubricated in each rail.

Use a clean swab soaked in lubricant oil, part number 83 19 0 142 692, to lubricate the full length of the rails Operate the sunroof several times to

ensure even distribution of the lubricant.
