Condition

The driver information system displays the message:

Gearbox malfunction: you can continue driving

Two possible scenarios exist for this TSB to apply:

Condition 1

The following entries are logged individually or in combination, with P179E logged first (using DTC environmental data):

^ P179E - Drive range sensor Electrical

^ P0700 (DFCC: 20196) - Control Module Malfunctioning

^ P1758 (DFCC: 8464) - Terminal 15 Voltage supply Open circuit

^ P060A (DFCC: 8126, 8345) - Control Module Internal Processor Monitoring

If P179E is not logged first this TSB does not apply (using DTC environmental data), Continue with standard diagnosis.

Condition 2

The following entries are logged individually or in combination in the diagnosis protocol. The times the DTCs are logged are not relevant:

^ P179E (DFCC: 8050, 8051, 8052, 8053) - Drive range sensor Electrical

^ P179F (DFCC: 8054, 8055, 8056, 8057) Sensor for transmission range, malfunction

^ P0716 (DFCC: 8096, 8101) Transmission Input Speed Sensor 1 Implausible Signal

^ P171F (DFCC: 8097, 8102) - Input Turbine/Speed Sensor Circuit 2 Range/Performance

^ P0715 (DFCC: 8094, 8103) - Transmission Input Speed Sensor 1 Electrical Malfunction

^ P2765 (DFCC: 8095, 8104) - Transmission Input Speed Sensor 2 Electrical Malfunction

^ P0501 (DFCC: 8098) - Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 Range/Performance

^ P2159 (DFCC: 8099) - Vehicle Speed Sensor 2 range/Performance

The DFCC is the 4-6 digit code that is typically listed before the fault code (Figure 1).

Tip: Fault codes and DFCC codes must match exactly or this TSB should not be followed.

Technical Background

Incorrect driving mode sensor module.

Production Solution

Not applicable.

Service

1. If faults shown in Condition above along with the matching DFCCs are present, replace the G676 sensor module with circuit board by

following instructions in ELSA >> Repair manual >> Transmission >> S Tronic Transmission Internal Components Gears, Shafts >> Removal

and Installation >> Sensor Module with Transmission Input Speed Sensor -G612-,-G632-, -G67 Circuit Board 3

2. When replacing the sensor module, its wiring loom must also be replaced.

Note:

These instructions require transmission case disassembly. Audi Academy course # 950224 is required viewing before attempting repair

service. Complete the course and the assessment # 950224B before attempting repair or warranty claim may be denied. This can be found

on the Audi Academy CRC site.

Tip: Use caution when lifting or lowering intermediate housing to avoid damage to components (Figure 2).
