CONDITION

The customer may report the following issues with the Telephone Transceiver R-36 in their vehicle:

^ Customers mobile phone no longer connects via Bluetooth. A MMI Software update or Telephone Transceiver replacement was not performed

prior to this condition.

^ MMI displays message Telephone not available.

Tip: Multimedia Control Head E380 and all MOST ring modules, except R-36, are ruled out as the root cause.

^ The customer may also report that audio output has interference (cutting out, crackling noises) in various audio sources, in which the Telephone

Transceiver may be the root cause.

Tip: Also check TSB 2015528 and TSB 2014375.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Incompatible cell phone or software-related issue of Telephone Transceiver R-36.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

New software for Telephone Transceiver R-36.

SERVICE

Tip: In case scan tool communication can't be established, loop the optical connection of R-36. If the scan tool communication can be re-established,

replace the telephone transceiver with part number 4F0 910336 HX and proceed to Section 2.

Before considering a software update:

357

1. Verify that the customer cell phone is compatible to the vehicle. The phone preparation database can be found on

http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/experience/technology/mpp_database.html or select Audi Lifestyle -> Technology -> Mobile phone preparation

on www.audiusa.com.

If the customer's cell phone compatibility is not confirmed:

^ Verify that the condition is also applicable with another phone (approved).

^ Determine if the customer phone functions or malfunctions in another vehicle.

2. If the universal phone preparation is identified as the root cause for the condition, verify whether RVU CQ/91D8 is valid for this vehicle and

whether it has been performed. If the RVU is valid for the vehicle and has not yet been performed, claim replacements of R-36 and the MMI

software update under this RVU. Refer to Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR 2018510 for additional information.

Otherwise, proceed to Section 1.

Section 1. Verifying HW identification of the Telephone Transceiver R-36.

1. Press and hold the SETUP button, and then press and hold the RETURN button. Hold both buttons down until the red update screen appears.

2. Select Handyvorb2 to verify Hardware and Software version of the phone preparation.

358

^ If HW-Index: H00 is displayed, replace the Telephone Transceiver R-36 with part number 4F0 910 336 HX. (See Workshop Manual, Electrical

system >> Rep. Gr 91 >> Infotainment, telephone system >> Removing and installing telephone transmitter and receiver unit-R36.). Proceed to

Section 2

^ If SW-Index: 0700 and HW-Index does not read H00, return to the normal display by pressing the RETURN button and proceed to Section 2.

Section 2. MMI System Software Update

Refer to Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR 2019334 for directions to perform the update.

Tip: If the Telephone Transceiver R-36 was replaced with part number 4F0 910 336 HX, the CD#1 software and firmware update as described in

TSB 2019334 is not necessary. In this case, proceed directly to the final software update with CD#2 (4F0 998 961).
