Supersedes Technical DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR Group 91 number 11 - 78 dated January 7, 2011 for reasons listed below.
Affected Vehicles
Audi A4 Quattro Sedan (8K2) L4-2.0L Turbo (CAEB) Page 278
Condition
MMI screen flickers.
Technical Background
The brightness of the background lighting of the MMI screen is controlled by the brightness sensor. The background lighting is adjusted in stages,
which can be perceived as flickering.
The adjustment can be affected by covering up or shining a light at the brightness sensor, which is located next to the speedometer in the instrument
cluster.
Production Solution
Not applicable.
Service
Check with the customer to see when the flickering occurs. Usually this takes place while entering and exiting tunnels or when driving between tall
buildings or tree-lined streets that block the sunshine. If the customer confirms this, no repair is necessary. Please explain the Technical Background
to the customer.
Tip: The flickering can be reduced by increasing the brightness with the regulator on the light switch and in the MMI menu for the screen brightness
adjustment.
If the flickering has a different cause, continue the analysis with the MMI screen and screen wiring.
