The head restraints in the rear cannot be adjusted/removed.
Cause:
The height adjustment of the rear head restraints has been discontinued with modification year 2009 (code XY9) due to legal requirements. The head
restraints can now only be removed.
If this is not possible, there may be the following causes:
1. Felt and adhesive residues in guide tubes
2. Fastening spring too strong
3. Relative position of guide tubes
Note:
The center head restraint is set lower than the two outer head restraints to prevent viewing obstruction.
Remedy:
If the rear head restraints cannot be removed, proceed as follows:
1. Check the guide tubes for felt and adhesive residues (intended to reduce noise), and completely remove felt/adhesive residues.
2. Bend open the fastening spring from internal size 12.3 mm to 13.4 mm (see attachment).
3. The slight inclination of the two guide tubes towards each other can make it more difficult to remove the head restraint. Align the guide tubes in
the backrest parallel with each other.
It should be possible to remove the head restraint, but it must not be loosely seated in the guides.
