Complaint:
Honking or squeaking noise when steering in both directions, mainly occurs when warm.
Cause:
Wear on the bottom radial shaft sealing ring of the control head due to insufficient lubrication can result in honking/squeaking noises.
Remedy:
Replace bottom radial shaft sealing ring of control head.
Please note :
When installing the radial shaft sealing ring (13, see attachment 001), always make sure that it is correctly positioned! The spring (17, see attachment 001) must be visible. Also, the disk spring (15, see attachment 001) must be installed as shown.
1. Remove steering
2. Replace bottom radial shaft sealing ring of control head
Important note on steering systems in MODEL 204:
Due to a technical modification to the sealing concept, both internal oil lines must be replaced when performing this repair on steering systems up to a certain steering number. The steering numbers are listed in the parts table under the parts "Steering gear repair kit".
On steering systems after this steering number, only use the sealing washers and sealing rings from the radial shaft sealing ring repair kit. It is not necessary to replace the lines.
3. Adjust play between thrust piece and steering rack
4. Install steering
5. Check function of steering
