G95 X5M EV and G96 X6M EV Models Are In Development

From latest update in the Future BMW models information Thread
- I can confirm BMW working on EV versions of G95 X5M and G96 X6M. Cant confirm the ICE versions (but this could be just the lack of data, not the actual absence of those models).
- The motor setup on the full-M EV cars will differ from all other EV models. That is, ZA0, ZA5, G95/G96 will use the same family of motors, though G95/G96 will likely differ in performance from ZA0/ZA5.

BMW M2 Drifts Through Munich Plant. Red Bull Germany x BMW M.

Elias Hountondji from the Red Bull Driftbrothers manoeuvres his brand-new competition vehicle, the "BMW M2 Drift Competition" with over 1,100 hp, through the heart of the BMW plant in Munich. An environment that is actually the complete opposite of a race track: instead of well-trodden kerbs and gravel beds, the track is surrounded by precisely calibrated robots and state-of-the-art equipment. For Elias, this means no run-off area, zero tolerance for errors. |

Two-Day BMW Driver’s School Review

As promised here is my write up from the BMW Two-day Driver’s School that I attended earlier this month in Thermal, California…
You can read about the full program here Driving School but Ive summarized my experience below to help personalize how the activities are laid out.
First off if youve done the BMW new owners track drive the Two-Day Driver’s School includes all of the same with the exception of possibly driving a few different cars on the short auto cross circuit.
I flew into the Palm Springs airport as it is a short 30 minute drive to Indio where our hotel was and only about 25 minutes past Indio to the Thermal Club where the BMW Performance Center is located.
If you have the opportunity to take the class with a friend or spouse I highly recommend it as you are paired up with another driver for both days. I did this with a friend of mine who Ive known since high school and he was equally interested/excited about the course and we were both able to help “coach” each other a bit more by providing additional feedback on hand placement, lines and timing for some of the activities. It also helped to have someone that matched your enthusiasm for being willing to step outside the comfort zone and discuss pros and cons of the day.
Our class had three instructors 1 head instructor Rick and two assistant instructors Rob and Cam.
Our group was 13 people so we had 3 cars in one group and 4 cars in the other group. Each car had 2 people with the exception of 1 car that had 1 person. This allowed for a fairly personal and smal group experience as you get more repetition and thus more feedback from your instructors. Our cars were m240i and m340i. I strongly would encourage the use of seat memory for each of the drivers as you shift back and forth often and this can quickly get you back to the position you want to be in. Also the faster everyone is ready to roll and people are paying attention and focusing on the activity the more cycles you can get through.
Depending upon the activity you are working with either 1 or 2 of the instructors. As you read through the following summary know that while we were doing 1 activity on a given day the other group was doing the other activity e.g. when we were on the timed lap the other group was on the skid pad.
Day 1 activities listed in order for our group were a cone slalom followed by ABS panic breaking up to 45 miles an hour in a straight line followed by the emergency lane change activity then the skid pad and finally the timed auto cross.
Day 2 activities listed in order for our group were a second cone solemn activity that we would later do as a time challenge followed by Interstate braking at 70 miles an hour on a turn, then the new owners track drive on the short auto cross course followed by the new owner X5 off road course. We wrapped up the day with the timed cone challenge and ended on the skid pad. Both days included a 45 minute lunch break and plenty of water breaks between activities.
I was able to use my GoPro for all the activities and found the visor mount to be better then the suction cup mount given the movement between cars. If you are bringing a GoPro or similar I went through 3 batteries (as I would swap batteries when they had about 20 mins left) and was able to hold everything on a 256 GB card when shooting at 4K for both myself and my friend.
Here is the breakdown of the activities by day:
Day 1 began around 8:15 AM with a bit more classroom basics than I would have liked but I acknowledge that everyone needs to be at the same level going into the activities. The curriculum is largely BMW agnostic but there are various nuances that they do use to highlight BMW specific capabilities or nuances such as star marked tires so know that youll get a little bit of sales mixed in with their instruction but it really is minimal and there were at least a few people in the group that had no idea about the star marked tires so it obviously is providing value to some.
Cone slalom was largely straightforward and it focused you on looking ahead and not on the cones and being aware of the spacing of your vehicle as well as your hand placement It also familiarized you with the vehicles handling and its sizing. For me coming from of my daily driver of a 550 My friend and
I jokingly referred to the 240 as an adult version of a go kart as we thought it was small and nimble in addition to being well suited for the activities of the weekend.
For the ABS braking activity we used the straight section of the small auto cross course that the new owner track drive uses, and we worked up to faster and faster and faster speeds getting used to how ABS works. There were plenty of individuals who had never used ABS so this was again helpful for folks if you’ve never felt it and don’t realize that when it is engaged you have to keep your foot on the pedal to keep it engaged don’t stop just because of the sounds and feeling (pulse) you feel through the pedal. The key thing to remember on this activity is that when you push the brake and you think you push the brake as hard as you can there is more room to go and you need to keep pushing to engage the ABS this becomes more and more apparent as at the final step when youre doing it at 45 miles an hour your windows are down and if you properly engage the ABS the windows will automatically roll up to keep debris from coming into the car if this were a real world event.
We then went back out to the same area of the facility where we had done that cone slalom to work on the emergency lane change. Again focus here is hand placement constant speed and use of brakes so each of the prior skills is building on each other, it was also insightful to realize what the cars are capable of when you see the size of the opening you are navigating your car through.
Next we headed to the skid pad and learned how to get the car into a skid and how to recover from the skid. This is also the only section of the course that permits you to have DSC turned off. Having DSC turned off on any other activities and the instructors catching you will result you being parked for the day. This activity also allows you to get familiar with how to use the paddle shifters for those that had not used them previously. There was also a bracket challenge here wherein you were pitted against other drivers to see who could get around the skid pad the fastest without passing the other car.
The timed auto cross was the finale of the day for our group and for me by far the most fun you have a walkthrough or rather a slow drive through of the course with tips from your instructor followed by several timed laps. In our case you had 4 or 5 and your best time was kept. What made it challenging was the ability to have to stop within the stop box versus running through the course and then gently braking after crossing the finish line So think back to the use of ABS earlier and know that youre going to be applying ABS when you come to a stop as if you were to be outside of the stop box on either side its a 2 second penalty.
We wrapped Day 1 around 4:30 PM.
Day 2 began around 8:30 AM similar to Day 1 and our first activity after a bit of classroom refresh was the more advanced cone slalom where are we focused on getting up to a consistently faster speed and rhythm.
We then went into the 70 – 0 MPH braking activity using the long section of the timed auto cross course from yesterday and the tightest corner at the end. The take away here was when using ABS brakes keep the wheel straight and then turn at the very end even though you are entering a turn and the natural instinct is to want to brake and steer simultaneously. Reason being is do not turn earlier as your car can actually stop sooner if the wheels are just straight as the ABS and DSC isn’t having to handle another force e.g. lateral at the same time. We then did the new owners track drive and you can read my prior post on that in this forum here https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh….php?t=2210313
We then did a double lane change up to about 45 miles an hour which I found also to be straightforward and equally enjoyable as it gave you additional experience should you encounter some sort of debris or an animal suddenly in your path.
From here it was our timed cone activity taking into account what we learned earlier as well as setting ourselves up for turns and where the apexes are to maximize you getting back into a straight line faster. It also ended with a stop box so again use of ABS at the end will set you up for a win to make sure you don’t incur a 2 sec. penalty.
We then headed out to the skid pad for additional practice on starting a skid and coming out of it. We went both clockwise and counterclockwise around the skid pad so you could practice both. I found both ways to be about the same while there were others in the class that certainly found one way to be easier than others so definitely a skill that requires more practice. Additionally for some folks they also had them re-enable DSC so that they could understand just how much the car is doing to keep you in control.
We finished Day 2 around 445pm.
All in all a rewarding time and good jumping off point for their other classes such as the One-Day M School or Two-Day M School. Also there was a 2 Day Teen school occurring the same weekend and overhearing the teens talk they seemed to like it. I may look at enrolling my eldest child next year when they have a few more months of licensed driving experience under their belt as the feedback I heard was although it is open to kids with permits having a bit more time behind the wheel is beneficial and that additional time seems to fall naturally with having also had a license for a few months.

Chasing an R8 & GT3 RS at the Tail

Im on a 4,000-mile fall trip to Dallas in my 2021 RWD Comp. Ill be coming home through the Ozark Mountains (hoping the leaves will have changed), and then through St. Louis (to see my goddaughters)…then back to MD.
On the way to Dallas (which is where I am now), I went through Tennessee to see my other goddaughter and her new baby, so I spent a day at the Tail.
At the Hub, one of a few gathering places near The Tail, I met a guy in a GT3 RS, and we shared our love of driving. So we went out together. First, I was in front of him, but even with me seriously pressing and pushing my G82, of course I was just slowing him down. So I slid over and let him pass, so I could see if I could keep up with him. And then an Audi R8 joined us and led the way…he was ahead stuck behind a slow Trike. Finally the trike slid over and let us all pass. So the GT3 and I chased the Audi.
Before the Audi joined us, the GT3 was so much faster in the corners, of course, carrying 10+ mph more than me. But my G82 held its own and stayed relatively close, but at one point…he was just gone.
We caught up to the trapped Audi, and then a 997 and a new Supra was behind me. So we had a nice group of 5. But along the way, the Audi, GT3 and me pulled far ahead of the 997 and the new Supra. I know the Tail pretty well, so part of my advantage is me simply having Tail driving experience in a variety of cars over the years. And FWIW, my G82 has Michelin 4S in the front, and a slightly oversized 5S in the rear (295/30/20).
Ultimately, the Audi let the GT3 pass (because he too was just not fast enough for the GT3), and we both ended up chasing the GT3…with me sandwiched in the middle.
So. Much. Fun.
If you love driving, and youre east of the Mississippi, plan a trip to the Tail of the Dragon. You wont regret it. And for 2+ days of pure driving bliss, attend this event: https://ift.tt/LfR8Y14 I have been a few times, and will likely be back in 2026. Its a well-organized, spirited drive through the Smoky Mountains across 3 states with other BMWs. But you can also just relax and enjoy the roads, as theres 3 to 4 different driving groups to choose from, led by experienced drivers who know the area (groups: super spirited, spirited, swift but relaxing, and scenic for those who want to simply dawdle along).

The BMW X5 Conquers the Rebelle Rally

The BMW X5 Conquers the Rebelle Rally.
- Team wins first place in Bone Stock category and second place overall in X-Cross class for all-wheel-drive vehicles.
- BMW of North America Product Manager Rebecca Dalski helped bring the victory to life from the navigator seat.
- Contested by an all-women field of drivers and navigators, the rigorous competition covers 1,700 miles of demanding desert terrain and prohibits GPS guidance, forcing teams to rely on paper maps and compasses.
- The challenging offroad conditions helped team gather real world insights for BMW’s X family of Sports Utility Vehicles.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 18, 2025… After eight grueling days across 1,700 miles of unforgiving desert terrain, the BMW X5 has taken first place in the 2025 Rebelle Rally Bone Stock category and second place overall in the X-Cross category for all-wheel-drive vehicles. The teams exceptional performance demonstrates the true grit and versatility of BMW’s best-selling model, which was expertly guided by BMW of North America Product Manager Rebecca Dalski.
BMW returned to the longest competitive off-road navigation rally in the U.S. this year with a vehicle nearly identical to what comes off its assembly line in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In the Bone Stock category, competitors are permitted no modifications beyond aftermarket wheels and tires in the factory size, making it a true test of innate engineering capabilities.
Rebecca Dalskis entry into the competition came as a unique opportunity for real-world product testing and evaluation. Relying solely on compasses and paper maps, Dalski gained firsthand insights into the BMW X5s performance under extreme pressure. The vehicle’s all-wheel drive system and potent inline-six engine helped propel the team through diverse desert terrain and across the finish line with remarkable composure. Inside the vehicle, Dalski and Donaghe’s extensive preparations, teamwork, and precision allowed for them to blaze through all checkpoints confidentially while outpacing their competitors.
The rallys notorious "dunes day" pushed the X5 to its limits, requiring careful planning and strategic driving to avoid getting bogged down in the soft sand. The team also had to overcome the mental fatigue and pressure of relying solely on maps and compasses to navigate over 1,700 miles, without the aid of GPS.
The following internal and external partners helped make this year’s Rebelle Rally win possible:

Sultan of Brunei’s BMW Car Collection

I recently watched this great video showing the efforts this chap went to to try and view the Sultan of Bruneis huge car collection. Whilst ultimately he failed, he did manage to see a small part of the Sultans sisters collection. The video also goes into detail why the family are so protective of the collection.
Anyway, this reminded me to share some photos of the Sultans BMW collection that I found some time ago.

Recent spy photos were taken near the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and we can expect more videos from the test drives in the Green Hell to follow soon. Details such as the design of the daytime running lights, which, like in other model series, also serve as turn signals, are easier to see in the photos anyway. A particular eye-catcher at the rear of the prototype are the four tailpipes, which leave no doubt about the power of the 3 Series Sedan: This isnt just any combustion engine, but the inline six-cylinder from the top-of-the-line BMW M350 xDrive . The less powerful four-cylinder variants are likely to forgo visible tailpipes, like the X1, 5 Series, and others, and thus align even more closely with the look of the electric BMW i3 (NA0) , which is scheduled to be unveiled next year." For the BMW M350, we can expect at least the 392 hp B58 variant in the recently revised BMW M340i , but some fine-tuning could even allow the prestigious 400 hp mark to be cracked. As before, the top model of the G50 family will always be equipped with the fully variable xDrive all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission; rear-wheel drive variants are also planned for less powerful models like the upcoming 320 and 320d. In the interior of the new 3 Series, we expect a cockpit very similar to that on board the recently unveiled BMW iX3. The G50 also comes with iDrive X and the Panoramic Vision Display . The narrow display strip across the full width of the windshield is flanked by the 17.9-inch main display and, optionally, a head-up display. However, the familiar iDrive controller will also be missing in the upcoming 3 Series. |

Track Battle: F87 M2C vs. G87 M2 (Pre-LCI)

|
The ultimate BMW M2 battle is here. The all-new BMW M2 G87 takes on its predecessor, the legendary BMW M2 Competition (F87), in a full track showdown to see just how far BMW’s smallest M car has come. From raw, turbocharged aggression to refined precision and technology, these two cars represent completely different eras of the M division — but which one delivers the true M2 experience? On paper, the G87 should destroy the F87… but on track, the results might surprise you. Featuring racing driver Sam behind the wheel to push both cars to their limits, we measure performance, handling, and lap times to reveal the truth behind BMW’s evolution. |
RG Sport’s BMW XM Road Trip: Los Angeles to Vancouver & Beyond

Sixteen days, two countries, and one unforgettable drive in the XM.
I’ve done this drive a few times before — roughly my sixth run from Los Angeles to Vancouver — but this was the first time doing it in the XM. That alone made it feel like a new experience.
I’d been planning this trip for months — a proper long-distance test for the XM, blending scenic highways, border crossings, and mountain roads. The idea was simple: leave Los Angeles early, make it all the way to Vancouver, explore British Columbia for a bit, then loop back home. Sixteen days, nearly three thousand miles, and countless memories.
Day 1 – Leaving Los Angeles
The alarm went off before sunrise. Bags packed, Thule box loaded, coffee in hand — time to roll. The XM sat waiting in the driveway, matte blue finish catching the first hint of morning light.
I hit the road just after 5 a.m., slipping through early traffic on the 5 north. The hybrid mode made the city departure nearly silent — eerie in a good way — until the freeway opened and the twin-turbo V8 joined the symphony.
Ten hours later, I reached Medford, Oregon. It was a long push, but the XM made it feel easy. The cabin stayed calm, the seats were flawless for endurance driving, and the highway miles just melted away.
Day 2 – Into the Pacific Northwest
I left Medford early the next morning. The landscape shifted from dry valleys to dense forest — the XM carving through curves with surprising grace for its size.
Crossing the Oregon-Washington border over the Columbia River felt like entering another world. Cooler air, greener trees, and that distinct Pacific Northwest mood.
A few more hours and I reached the Canadian border. The Peace Arch crossing was smooth; I rolled through in hybrid mode, almost whisper-quiet. By late afternoon, I was officially in Vancouver.
Spotted a G90 M5.

Days 3–8 – Life in Vancouver
Six nights in Vancouver gave me time to slow down. The city fit the XM’s personality — modern, bold, and stylish without shouting about it. I spent mornings walking around Coal Harbour and Stanley Park, evenings exploring Gastown and the waterfront.
The XM looked right at home in the city. Matte blue against the gray skyline, bronze accents catching the light between drizzle and sunbreaks. Everywhere I parked, someone asked, “What BMW is it?”
Days 9–11 – Whistler: Sea-to-Sky Perfection
The drive to Whistler alone made the whole trip worth it. The Sea-to-Sky Highway lives up to its name — ocean views on one side, steep cliffs on the other. The XM was in its element: planted, powerful, and quiet enough to hear the waves when I stopped.
I paused at Porteau Cove for photos — mist hanging over the water, mountains in the distance. Later, in Squamish, I stopped for coffee at a local café.
Whistler itself was peaceful. I spent a few days there enjoying mountain air and calm roads.
A must stop at Trolls, Horseshoe Bay, for their Fish & Chips and Clam Chowder.

Days 12–14 – Lynnwood, Washington
After Whistler, I headed south and spent three nights in Lynnwood. It was a comfortable base for exploring Everett and the Boeing factory — giant jets in various stages of assembly, and right there in the lot, the XM, another piece of high-tech machinery built for long journeys.

Day 15 – Lynnwood to Redding, California
Time to turn south. It was another marathon day behind the wheel — early start, long haul. The XM cruised smoothly through Oregon again, past endless trees and open skies.
I also discovered a small Thai restaurant in Portland, OR, Khao Moo Dang — crispy pork rice and tea after a long day of exploring. Simple comfort food hits differently when you’ve been living out of hotels and highways.
By nightfall, I was in Redding. One more sleep before the final leg.
Day 16 – The Final Stretch Home
The last morning of the trip started with coffee, a deep breath, and that bittersweet feeling of an adventure ending.
I set the navigation for Los Angeles and began the long descent back into familiar territory. Somewhere near the Central Valley, I pulled over to stretch and looked back at the XM — coated in road dust, bugs, and memories. It had done everything I asked, and then some.
By the time I reached LA, the trip meter read just shy of 3,000 miles. The XM was back where it started. Long drives have a way of grounding you — it’s just you, the road, and the rhythm of the miles.
PS: Apology for lack of pictures on the way home since nothing interesting but dry California.
Reflections
Sixteen days. One car. Two countries.
The XM handled everything — city streets, mountain passes, border lines, and endless stretches of highway — without missing a beat. It’s the kind of vehicle that makes you want to keep driving just to see where the road goes next.
This trip reminded me why I love long drives: the quiet moments between destinations, the satisfaction of covering real distance, and the way a great machine turns travel into memory.
If you’ve done a long-haul trip in your BMW, you know the feeling — the connection between road, machine, and the miles in between. This was mine.

This Limited-Run BMW M2 Is Retro Done Right
Here's Our First Look at Toyota's New Sports Car
2026 BMW M2 Turbo Design Edition Announced

The 2026 BMW M2 Turbo Design Edition
- A special, very limited edition of the 2026 BMW M2.
- Hand-painted graphics inspired by the classic 1974-1975 BMW 2002 turbo.
- M Carbon fiber trim including roof panel with integrated M tricolor stripes.
- MSRP $82,900 plus $1,175 destination and handling.
- Production begins in Q1 2026. Deliveries expected in early Q2.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 10,2025… Today, at the 2025 Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, BMW revealed the limited edition 2026 M2 Turbo Design Edition. Its vivid Alpine White paint is draped in hand-painted Motorsport stripes and a black hood graphic with “turbo” in mirror writing, paying a reverential tribute to the legendary BMW 2002 turbo from 1974-1975.
Five decades ago, the 02 Series was fundamental in establishing BMW as a maker of vehicles that deliver both engaging all-around performance and everyday practicality. The 2002 turbo showed that BMW could dial up the intensity on the performance while without compromising the usability. Today’s M2 embodies that same ethos, fusing a thrilling driving experience on road or track with daily comfort, convenience, and civility.
The 2026 M2 Turbo Design Edition will be produced in extremely limited numbers starting in January of 2026. It will come very well-equipped and exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission, with a base MSRP of $82,900 plus $1,175 destination and handling.
1973: an instant classic – and a future of turbocharging – is born.
At the 1973 Frankfurt Auto Show, BMW debuted the 2002 turbo. Based on the giant-killer 2002 tii, it was the very first European production vehicle powered by a turbocharged engine. The single KKK turbocharger boosted the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine from 130 to 170 hp, and could rocket the 2002 to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds – a hugely impressive accomplishment for the time.
The turbo was distinguished from other 2002 models by muscular fender flares that allowed for wider wheels and tires, a black rear spoiler, BMW Motorsport stripes that ran from the front wheel arches down the length of the body, “turbo” badging a the rear, and a large front air dam. That air dam could be optionally fitted with “2002 turbo” graphics – written backwards so they could be read clearly in the rear view mirror of the car being overtaken on the Autobahn.
Exterior: iconic 2002 turbo design hallmarks.
The 2026 M2 Turbo Design Edition is clearly inspired by the look of the original. Finished exclusively in brilliant Alpine White, it features bold, hand-painted BMW Motorsport stripes around the perimeters of the hood and trunk lid. The front and rear graphics are connected visually by additional tricolor stripes on the standard M Carbon roof panel.
The power dome on the hood is finished in black, with the reversed “turbo” script evoking the original. At the back is a black trunk-mounted spoiler – a carbon fiber unit from BMW M Performance – and unique “turbo” badging. M Dual-Spoke wheels Style 930M finished in Black are standard, or M Performance wheels Style 1000M finished in Matte Gold Bronze may be specified as an option.
Interior: well-equipped for serious driving, and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Opening the doors, the driver and passenger are greeted with unique sill plates emblazoned with “M2 turbo” script. Standard M sport seats are trimmed in Black Vernasca Leather with M Color Highlight – a callback to the striping on the exterior. M Carbon bucket seats, also finished in Black with M Color Highlight, are optional.
The original 2002 turbo was fitted with a standard 4-speed manual or an optional 5-speed manual transmission, so it’s appropriate that the the M2 Turbo Design Edition comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual. Ahead of the shifter on the cup holder cover is a plate with “turbo” inscribed over an M stripe background. The driver faces a standard heated M alcantara steering wheel.
Further standard equipment on the M2 Turbo Design Edition includes Adaptive Full LED lights with M Shadowline trim and Automatic High Beams, Carbon Fiber interior trim, Live Cockpit Professional with Head-Up Display, and wireless device charging. Besides the M Performance Gold Bronze wheels and M Carbon bucket seats, customers may add the M Driver’s Package as an option.
Performance: how BMW M does turbocharging in the 21st century.
Where the 2002 Turbo was BMW’s first experiment with turbocharging in a production vehicle, the 2026 M2 Turbo Design Edition makes full use of over 50 years of advancements of the technology. Its 3-liter M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine produces 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. This means the trip from 0 to 60 mph is dealt with in just 4.1 seconds, on to a top speed of 155 mph, or 177 mph if the M Driver’s Package is specified.

How Tom Wrigley Built a 7-Second BMW G80 M3
- 1550 wheel horsepower
- 0–60mph in 1.57 seconds
- Quarter mile in 7.91 seconds at 175mph
If you have been anywhere near the BMW drag racing scene recently, you have probably heard about Tom Wrigley Performance’s G80 M3. It is a car that is redefining what is possible from BMW’s S58 platform. From the outside, it still looks recognisably like an M3, but beneath the surface it’s completely purpose-built for going as fast as possible.

Engine & Drivetrain
At the heart of this project is a fully built S58 engine featuring a 5150 AutoSport stroker kit, GSC camshafts and valve springs, with a cylinder head from Headgames Motorworks. The full assembly was handled by SpecJ, marking one of the few times Tom Wrigley Performance has partnered externally for an engine build.

Boost is provided by a Precision Next Gen Sportsman Turbo, mounted with a custom single turbo kit from Overkill Performance. Tom prefers to keep the exact turbo specifications under wraps and often changes the setup as he experiments with new configurations. Cooling is handled by an Overkill Performance front-mount charge cooler using a CSF core, supported by an ice box to keep intake temperatures under control. Tom also uses a Funk Motorsport turbo blanket to keep the big single turbo nice and cool.

The Radium Engineering fuel system uses a compact 15-litre tank with three pumps to feed the engine. A recently added nitrous system provides an extra push and will play a key role in taking the platform even further.
Power delivery comes through a DEKA Clutches-built gearbox and transfer case, while the differentials remain stock for now, with upgraded units on the way. The result is an incredibly responsive and powerful drivetrain capable of launching the car to 175 mph in under eight seconds.
Software is done in-house in collaboration with Mike Ball over MHD.
Suspension & Brakes
Putting that kind of power to the ground requires some serious suspension upgrades. Tom’s G80 runs AST MOTON 3-way suspension with external reservoirs, which he credits for eliminating squat and improving traction off the line. This setup is paired with Suspension Secrets adjustable control arms, fine-tuned for drag racing performance.

Attachment 3832122
Braking is handled by a mix of stock and lightweight components. The front uses standard BMW brakes after Tom reverted from smaller lightweight discs, as the car’s speed now demands greater stopping power, especially for half-mile events. Aerospace Components lightweight rear brakes keep unsprung weight low while still providing stability.

Exterior Modifications

Attachment 3832126
The exterior might look simple at first glance, but every detail serves a purpose. Up front, a Project Gamma headlight delete and MHC+ GT Style front grille optimise airflow and save weight. The car rides on West Forged lightweight front wheels with 17-inch beadlock rears for maximum traction on launch.
Attachment 3832127
Attachment 3832128
Underneath, Tom has fabricated a completely flat floor to improve stability and airflow at high speed. Lightweight carbon fibre doors, a carbon fibre bootlid and ACW plastic windows all contribute to major weight savings. A parachute sits proudly at the rear, a necessity for decelerating safely after a 175 mph run.

Of course, Tom has a full livery highlighting all the brands and partners involved with his incredible build.
Interior Modifications & Safety

Inside, the focus is purely on function and safety. A Tillett B10 XL carbon fibre bucket seat saves weight and keeps Tom securely in place, while a JQ Werks racing steering wheel system ensures precise control during each pass.
Safety equipment is extensive with a fully certified roll cage by SW Motorsports, alongside a fire suppression system and battery cut-off switch installed by Jay from German Autowerks. Santa Pod officials advised these additions, and Tom did not hesitate. Safety is a top priority when running cars of this calibre.
The Result
The result of countless hours of testing and development is a G80 M3 capable of running a 7.91-second quarter mile. Every component on the car has been chosen or modified with purpose, from the stroked engine and precision turbo setup to the suspension and safety systems.
Tom Wrigley’s G80 M3 stands as one of the fastest BMWs in the world and a true benchmark for what the S58 platform can achieve. And knowing Tom, this is unlikely to be the car’s final form.

October 2025 Update (from Future BMW Models Info Thread)
- G22/G23/G82/G83 will be with us for an extra year, until 06/29
- Production of the current MINI models has been extended into the early 2030s. U25 will be produced until 10/33 for the gas models and 10/32 for the EVs.
- These two items suggest slower transition to Neue Klasse replacements than we expected just a year ago.
