New to me G90 M5 & comparison vs. my F90

I thought I’d give it a try, and compare it to F90. Since I have both now.
Got this Marina Bay Blue one with Red Interior.
I do like, but I will probably not keep it for long.
It drives great, feels quite close to a BMW XM, but handles way better then XM.
Feels faster than F90 even though it is not.
Seats are noticeably comfier than F90 seats. But not by a lot. I can’t find the button to adjust knee support bolster, maybe it doesn’t have that 🤷🏻*♂️
Also disappointed that it doesn’t have adjustable seat back.
B&W sounds noticeably better in G90 then same one in F90.
If you ever had F10 and loved Bang & Olufsen in it, then you probably felt disappointed about B&W in F90,
But I really enjoying music in G90 after numb sound quality in F90.
Would be nice to have massaging option in front seats.
No soft close feels like a miss out. Hopefully they will add that next year.
No active outside handles in rear door makes it feel cheap.
Whatever they used to upholster the seats feels rough, i can’t say that it feels cheap, but you can definitely tell it’s not real leather,
My F90 has full leather and it even smells fancy.
G90 doesn’t have that obvious scent in it, my G80 even smelled more BMW-ish then G90

My Long Recovery Road Back to a Manual G82

Back in 2022 I owned a manual skyscraper grey ‘22 M3 that I absolutely loved.

In November that year I had a freak bike accident that nearly killed me. I ended up in the ICU for a week on oxygen with a severely damaged hip/pelvis, 3 broken ribs, a punctured lung, lots of soft tissue damage, and multiple pulmonary embolisms. It was a close call and I’m lucky to be here.

Unfortunately my hip was so injured I was unable to drive a manual (I could barely stand up and shuffle along with two canes) so was forced to trade the car in. I ended up trading it on a loaded Dravit grey 2024 X-Drive Comp on Tartufo with the hope I’d eventually recover enough to get back into a manual car.

Fast forward to just over two years post accident and I’m finally able to drive a manual once again. I picked up this beauty yesterday and the 1.5 hour drive home from the dealer was PURE BLISS.

It’s a manual 2025 Skyscraper Grey Metallic G82 with laser taillights, adaptive headlights, red calipers, 825Ms, exterior carbon pack, carbon roof, Fiona red interior, interior carbon trim, ventilated seats and universal garage door opener.

The connection you feel driving a manual RWD G8X just can’t be overstated. I’m still excited like a kid at Christmas and can’t wait to drive it on some country roads again today.

Cheers!

My Frozen Grey G90 M5 Picked Up

Just picked up my frozen grey! My original order has been stuck at the port in Germany for over 3 weeks now. Got lucky and found an identical build at another dealership.

First impressions:

1) Car is an absolute power beast. The instant torque available at start and after 3rd gear is reminiscent of my previous Model S.

2) Ive only done a few hundred miles so far but the power IMO negates any weight issues. Very planted on curves and turns.

3) The interior especially the red seats are absolutely eye popping.

4) The car is definitely a head turner. Already have had several compliments. The frozen grey really makes this car look even more aggressive.

5) I was afraid I would be severely disappointed by the exhaust note from the outside but the cold starts actually sound pretty damn good!

My Individual Irish Green on Tartufo G82 M4 xDrive

This is my 2024 Individual Irish Green M4 Competition xDrive, which I picked up earlier this month with 1,054 miles on it. While I’m not planning an extensive build, I wanted to document any subtle changes since this is a less common color.

Before this, I had a 2022 G80 manual in a very basic black-on-black spec, but I never fully connected with the transmission. I ended up selling it while studying for a professional certification in late summer (I had zero free time and the car just felt like a distraction), planning to reassess my daily driver situation once I passed my exam in November. Initially, I had my sights set on a 992 GTS or C4S (I drove both at private Porsche events at Summit Point Raceway and fell in love), but after consideration, I realized they weren’t practical for my daily needs, like transporting my dog or golf gear. I would have had to put my clubs in the cabin in the 911.

That led me to consider the G82. At first it felt a little bit like buying the same car twice, but I quickly realized just how different the G80/G82 manual and xDrive are. Aside from the engine note and the familiar interior, they really don’t feel similar at all. I knew the xDrive would make a perfect sporty daily driver. I planned to order a 2025 model but came across this car and couldn’t pass it up.

The vision for this car is a “gentleman’s daily”—classy and understated (unlike my wife’s individual Signal Green X5M). No loud exhaust, extreme mods, or anything too aggressive. It needs to stay refined enough to pick up a client for lunch without being over the top.

I must give a shout-out to @[AhsanU](contact:166441) – he picked me up from the rental car drop-off and drove me to the dealership and helped inspect the car. His beautiful Tartufo bucket seats reminded me that I made the right choice with the comfort seats!

Since I’ve had the car, I swapped the Pirelli summers on the bi-color 825Ms for Continental DWS 06+ all-seasons (my “winter” setup), bought Ahsan’s silver 825Ms (my summer setup), and had the car tinted by Speed & Tech Motoring. RJ at Speed & Tech also fixed a small area of PPF on the front bumper that was coming up.

Planned Mods:

Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs (trying not to go too low)
Future Classic 12mm F/R spacers
Millway Monoball kit (had this on my G80 – it’s a must)
Carbahn rear link kit
SST Valve Controller
Paint-matched reflectors
M Performance carbon fiber lip
Dinan CF intakes
CF Strut Brace
Color-matched engine cover

You can follow me on IG at @par__m3 (still need to change my handle at some point)

Well, it didn’t take long.

We finally got the G90 M5 on the dyno with a Dähler performance module. I’m assuming it’s on 93 octane, but we have baseline numbers to compare to the stock map on the same dyno!

This M5 with the performance module put down:

747whp at 5,890rpm

782whp at 3,050rpm

Making gains of 69whp and 59wtq from the baseline map.

My Life Journey to the G80 M3

I dont really post much around here, honestly this forum has been such a great resource for me in selecting my G80, Ive really enjoyed reading through some of the member review and I wanted to contribute, so bear with me.

Im definitely a motorsport fanatic, I built a mini go-kart track at my farm, its nothing impressive, but we race karts here. I also do a bunch of track days. In 2014 I sold my RSTI replica for a 2013 bmw m3 e92 manual. I loved the e92 platform.

At the time, I lived in Montreal, Quebec and I only got to enjoy my M3 for about 3 months before it was stolen. I was devastated, I had just done a bunch of track related mods to it, including a full exhaust and the insurance company took over 2 months to pay me out. Funny thing is I had paid the car in full, so I ended up losing about 8k in the whole ordeal.

Was a hell of a situation, because I badly wanted another e92, but couldnt find a manual with the millage I was looking for, I ended up getting an F82 M4 DCT. I think I did about 15-18 track day with that car, was one of the most reliable, albeit soulless cars I owned. That DCT was never my cup of tea. So I ended up selling it after 25k miles and bought a 991.1 carrera. Believe it or not that 4 was my daily driver in -25F weather, in the snow, in hail storms. I drove put over 30k miles on that thing in 2 years. That was a good year. I was single, 28 years old, living near the city, It really was a great machine, but again soulless, even with and exhaust, intakes and a tune that thing was just not as fiery as the e92 and I honestly missed that V8 note.

That summer I sold the carrera and got a 991.2 manual 4s in blue. Drove that car for the summer and right before winter bought a C43 AMG. I needed a 4 door car, as I had just gotten married and my wife was driving long distances to work and back. We were also commuting from Montreal-Virginia to see her parents. So the C43 was an absolute beast in the snow. AWD, V6 Twin-Turbo, this was 8 years ago and I still have the machine parked in my driveway. Ive put 100k miles on it, Ive driven it all the way to Florida, its the most consistent and reliable item Ive bought period. Love that thing. Anyhow, 5 years ago today, Covid started and my work asked me to move down to the US, I couldnt say no to being in warmer weather. So, my wife and I bought a farm in Southern Virginia were I reside today with a bunch of cattle, 6 goats and 4 horses. I went from downtown Montreal to the deep South.

That said, I needed something for VIR (Virginia international raceway), I wanted to do track days, something a bit more than the Karts we were using, so I bought the car that was always on my mind, an E92 M3.

In 2022, I bought the ESS S/C kit and a big brake kit for it. I fucking love that car. Its pretty much straight pipe and Im making some decent power. Ive put 14 track days on that car and 12k miles, Ive done so much maintenance and work on it, Id have to type out a Tolkien novel to cover it. If you have an e92, trust me the ESS kit is a game changer. I still own my E92, and will until I give it to my son one day. I can make a thread about my experience with it one day.

Alright, forward one year and my daughter was born. We have a farm truck that my wife uses and shes monopolized the C43 for quick errands, so I wanted to buy a 4 door to drive around my kid and considering she was prego again, I wanted something spacious. So being the considerate, reasonable person I am, I bought a 911 Turbo S. Yes a Turbo. I wanted one so bad, I need a Turbo S.

I put 3K miles on it before having to replace both turbos, got a transmission failure check engine light, had pretty much every damn electric fault you can imagine, I spent maybe half my time under that car wrenching on it. You know what I loved about the turbo experience? Nothing, absolutely nothing. That thing was the worst purchase of all the cars Ive mentioned. Whats funny is I regretting buying the moment I did, and I sold it to a gentleman that drove it across the country, Im sure he hates it as much as I did.

I wanted another shot at exotics, and I wanted a real 4 seater. So next came a Ferrari FF. Yes, an FF. I made it, I bought a prancing horse. You know how they say, there are two types of Ferrari owners? The ones that buy 1 and never buy another? And the ones that buy one and end up buying nothing else? Well Im the former, not the latter. I sold that thing faster than the 911. I know, I sound like just some guy putting in cars Ive owner that never existed, but check out the photos. No Im not a dealer and no Im not crazy, at least I dont think I am.

So, Now I had an E92 that smelled liked unburnt fuel and cigars, was highly modified, a few farm trucks and a C43 AMG. Whats next?

Why not a G80? Everyone seems to hate them, Im sure Ill love it right?

I searched the internetz and found a green one with 20k miles, manual for around 1/3 what I sold the FF for. Thats a lot of Go-Karting money saved, so the only reasonable thing to do was to buy it. And I did.

Ive driven the G80 for over 4k miles and like any fanboy, ricer, annoying self-centered car guy, I Tuned it, did Downpipes, exhaust and intakes. Yeah, I know, not too classy, but hey I live in the countryside, with no neighbors so why not. On a serious note, I have to be honest, I didnt expect to like this car this much, I know it gets some hate out there for being heavier, bigger and uglier than past gens but I dont understand the hate. The car is really a pleasure to drive, the gearbox, with a few mods is fantastic to shift. The low end torque is really fun, especially in the rain, and the sound you get with a secondary cat delete and primary resonator delete is really nice. The DPs give is a deeper crackling sound and a ton of pops (I know, Im a child). All in all its far superior than any predecessor on a track, one day at a track and its obvious to any driver with experience. We drove it back to back with the E92 ESS and honestly, minus the sound, the E92 doesnt hold a candle to it. Yes, its fun, its so fun to row through the gears, but its not as communicative, the G80 will surprise you with how little it under-steers for a big machine. When you widen your apex entry and through the front end in, you legit feel the engineering that has happened between 2013 and 2023. I have the Carbon seats, and they offer pretty much the best support Ive had minus my Birrell kart lol.

Even on the backroads, I love driving the E92 for the sound and veracity of that German V8, but the G80 gives you so much more confidence, a slide in it isnt like the F82, where you wonder if youre going to end up in a ditch every time the ass kicks out. I dont get the hate.

Ive come a long way, owned some pretty nice whips, but that G80 will sit beside my E92 for many years to come, Ill buy other cars Im sure, but there is something about this platform with a manual that is hard to describe. I think the best way to do it is to say confidence, the G80 is a confidence inspiring sedan. Sure a GT4 is a better track car for the price, but it doesnt fit a car seat, I cant look in the rear view mirror and see my kid giggle at the loud exhaust farts, or take them to get ice cream and row through the gears pleasantly without dying of monoxide poisoning (cue in my e92). Its just a great sedan and I think with all the electric garbage coming out, people will remember these cars as the last of an era, for now at least.

Sorry about the pictures being all over. But I wanted to share with you all my journey. If you asked me what is the best Sedan Ive owned, Id say the G80 M3. What is the funnest car Ive owned, it would be my replica RSTI with EJ20 310awhp and 1100kg. I hope this helped you Bimmerpost, I know you all have helped me a lot.

Evolve G90 M5: Continuing the Uber Saloon Legacy

I remember the first time I heard someone waxing lyrical about an M5. "It should not be able to move that fast with 4 passengers in it" This person was a friend who owned an E30 M3 at the time and told me about his first experience in an E34 M5 3.8 Nurburgring Edition. The M5 was the bench mark Uber Saloon.

Since Evolves inception in 2007 the M5 has paid an important part of our history. Not only the tuning, the races but also the fact that each one double up as my family car so still had to daily drivable.

Starting with the E39 M5 it was the first car we developed hardware on from headers, intakes and all the way to an intercooled supercharger kit.

Circumstances allowed us to recently buy the very E39 M5 that we developed the supercharger on for our customer all those years ago.

The E39 M5 was different to most M cars that had come before it because it had a lot of useable torque. It was like a 4 door muscle car and to do this day many people will say its the best M5.

The next M5 was very different. Slightly larger (yes this becomes a running theme!) but with a very different and unique powertrain. Gone was the torquey V8 mated to a manual gearbox and in came a high revving V10 mated to a SMG gearbox. The first time I drove one I couldnt believe how fast it was compared to its supercar rivals of the time. It felt like driving a 4 door supercar and sounded like one too with the right exhaust. 200 mph sir? It was possible and indeed it was the first car achieved this in.

Again we developed a lot of parts including headers, X Pipes, Switchable valved exhausts and ECU Tuning. It was also the car that introduced us to the infamous VMAX200 events which we attended in the M5 and did very well in. Some results below.

The next M5 would be probably the most controversial. Having recently moved to forced induction with the 1M BMW introduced the first turbo charged M5. The F10 M5 was a torque monster compared to the outgoing model and for the first time as M5 had a DCT gearbox which was a vast improvement over the outgoing SMG.

For me the F10 was a much nicer place to be, had better build quality and interior than the E60. The introduction of forced induction also meant that this M5 was very tuneable. Again we went to many VMAX200 events and had many memorable races. The ones that are etched in my memory include being 4 up against a Ferrari 458 Speciale and being very close to a Pagani Huayra.

The next M5 was a revolution. The first one with switchable xDrive and for me better than the F10 in every way. BMW stepped up the build and quality of materials in a big way and the car performed like a 4 door R35 GTR. It will always have a special place in my heart as it was the first BMW we took to 1000 BHP and because of the many crazy races we had with this car on the now very famous CarWow Youtube channel.

This is one of my favourites of the many videos they made of the car.

A very long winded way to introduce our latest project car some might say but I wanted to add some context. The M5 has always been an important car to Evolve but also to me personally and I cant wait to get stuck into the G90.

Its too soon to give my thoughts about it fully but I will say its more of an evolution than the revolution that the F90 was.

Immediately development plans:

Springs
HAS Kit
Downpipes
Mid Pipes
Intake (With Eventuri)
Paddle shifters

The Journey Getting My 2001 E38 740i Shorty Up to Standards

The 2001 BMW 740i, part of the revered E38 series, has long been a favorite among enthusiasts for its blend of luxury and performance. I was fortunate to acquire this iconic model during the pandemic, unaware of the journey it would take me on—or just how much Id come to love it. As I spent more time behind the wheel, I encountered the expected maintenance challenges typical of a car of this vintage. This led me to embark on a restoration project, aiming to upgrade and preserve the car in OEM-plus condition, with a focus on period-correct modifications. Among the enhancements, I upgraded the stereo system, addressing the outdated technology and replacing the blown speakers, ensuring the sound quality matched the cars timeless appeal.

After acquiring the car from a fellow enthusiast, I started to source parts from dismantlers, BMW dealers, fellow owners, as well as aftermarket sources.

My thoughts about maintenance is if there is an better than option go with it. Trying to go as OEM plus and period correct as I could go…

Problems to sort out

– blown speakers
– worn suspension
– worn front leather seats
– droopy headliner
– M Parallels rashed and tired
– brakes worn out / need more braking power
